Welcome back to another school year, MS4 and MS5 Learning Partners!
Congratulations again to all of last year’s IGCSE Business Studies Learning Partners for the impressive exam marks. I’m proud of you all!
I’m so glad that so many Learning Partners have chosen Business Studies as one of their IGCSE subjects this year (11 out of 14!) and am very excited to get started with it. I feel it is an extremely beneficial curriculum no matter what type of field or career you want to work toward.
We will be beginning the 2nd year of the IGCSE curriculum with Finance and Accounting, so a great deal a learning lies ahead!
Regards,
Christine

Event Planning!
The IGCSE Business Studies LP’s are really enthusiastic about their next project, which involves planning an event. They are beginning to study the basics of Marketing, and are incorporating the four P’s of the Marketing Mix: Product, Price, Promotion and Place. Don’t be surprised if you are invited to a special event from them in the near future!

Biofuels vs. Food Production
Learning Partners have been studying the supply chain in IGCSE Business Studies the past week. We discussed why increased prices in the primary sector influences everyone down the line to the consumer. We also discussed the production of biofuels and natural foods and the pros and cons of each. LP’s were broken into two groups and each group took turns trying to convince me, as a make believe land owner, to sell my land to their company. In the end, the food production group beat the biofuels group! However, there will be a last chance for rebuttal in class on Friday. Stay tuned!

IGCSE Business Studies
Hello,
This site will be used for IGCSE level Business Studies, and will not have information for Business Studies for MS1 – 3. I apologize for any confusion!
MS4 Learning Partners are already busy with their first presentations of the term. We had a great discussion about athletes and the endorsements they get, why companies choose athletes to represent their brand, and if certain athletes influence your decision to purchase a product. LP’s are researching famous athletes, analyzing the endorsements they have received, and will be presenting their findings on Tuesday.
Thanks,
Christine
Inventions!
Hello,
Just a reminder that your Inventions and Innovations Presentations will take place Monday, June 23. The criteria is below, and keep in mind this will be your last assessment mark for the year. I’ve heard of some very creative ideas so our panel of judges is definitely looking forward to hearing more about them!
Project Criteria
Groups sh Investigate and determine the need for the invention of a device, system or process. The invention may be groundbreaking, or it may be an improvement to an existing device, system or process. The invention may be an idea, in lieu of a working model. Team members will present their idea for an invention using either PowerPoint or Microsoft Word. A model is not required, however, if a working model is included, the possible grade is a 7. If not, the highest grade is a 6. Groups will make an oral presentation about the invention to a panel of judges who will act as a group of venture capitalists interested in funding an invention.

Entrepreneur Essays
Hello!
In Business Studies this week, Learning Partners started thinking about what it means to be an entrepreneur. Each LP chose two famous entrepreneurs to research. Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Milton Hershey, and Michael Bloomberg are a few examples. They will be writing an essay on their lives, how they got started in business, and why they are so successful. They will be presenting what they found to class next Monday, May 26th.
Have a great week!
Christine
